Custom Crating — Baltimore, MD

Custom Industrial Wood Crates & Shipping Boxes — Baltimore, MD

Built to your exact dimensions and load specs. Machinery, steel, export cargo, or high-value equipment. ISPM-15 certified for international shipment.

Built In-House. Built Around Your Cargo.

Custom crating is our primary specialty at Victor Wood Products. When standard boxes and pallets aren't enough — when you're moving machinery, industrial equipment, metals, or high-value components — we design and build a crate engineered for that specific load.

Every crate is built in-house at our Baltimore facility by our own team. We are not a franchise and we do not outsource fabrication. That means tighter quality control, faster turnaround, and a direct line of communication from your first call to delivery.

For international shipments, all of our crates can be built with ISPM-15 heat treated lumber and stamped with the IPPC mark — ensuring your cargo clears customs without delays in any of the 180+ countries that enforce international wood packaging regulations.

Our Custom Crating Process

From your first call to delivery — here's how it works.

1

Consultation

Tell us what you're shipping — dimensions, weight, fragility, destination (domestic or international). We ask the right questions to understand your requirements.

2

Design

We design a crate structure matched to your load — choosing the right lumber dimensions, bracing pattern, and closure method for the weight and handling it will face.

3

Build

Our team builds your crate at our Baltimore facility using new lumber — softwood or hardwood based on your requirements. ISPM-15 heat treated if you're shipping internationally.

4

Delivery

We deliver to your facility or freight terminal in Baltimore and surrounding areas. For export cargo, we can coordinate with your freight forwarder's timeline.

What We Crate

We build custom crates for a wide range of industrial and commercial cargo. Common applications include:

  • Industrial machinery — CNC equipment, presses, motors, pumps, and manufacturing components
  • Steel and metal products — coils, plates, structural components, and specialty fabrications
  • High-value electronics and instruments — sensitive equipment requiring cushioned, secure enclosures
  • Export cargo — any goods moving through the Port of Baltimore to international destinations requiring ISPM-15 compliant packaging
  • Government and military shipments — we are SAM.gov registered with experience in government contract requirements
  • Oversized or irregular loads — when standard packaging simply won't fit, we build custom

Why Victor vs. a Franchise Crating Service

We manufacture in-house

Franchise crating services often outsource fabrication. Our crates are built by our team at 7700 Rolling Mill Rd — full control over quality, timeline, and cost.

Faster turnaround

No coordination between a franchise front office and a remote shop. Your job goes directly from quote to our shop floor. Urgent crating jobs get done faster.

Better value

No franchise fees built into the price. As a family-owned manufacturer, we compete on quality and service — not on brand recognition.

Custom Industrial Crates — Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get a quote for a custom industrial crate?

Call us at (410) 288-4300 or fill out the contact form. Give us your cargo dimensions, weight, and destination (domestic or international) and we'll turn around a quote quickly. No need to come to us first — we can quote over the phone.

What makes your custom crates "industrial"?

We build crates for heavy industrial cargo — not retail gift boxes. Our custom industrial crates are engineered to support machinery, CNC equipment, metal fabrications, and other loads that require specific bracing, load-bearing floors, and secure closures. We calculate the lumber dimensions and fastener pattern based on actual weight and handling conditions.

Do you build custom crates for export through the Port of Baltimore?

Yes — this is one of our core services. We're located 3–5 miles from the Port of Baltimore and regularly build export crating for freight forwarders and manufacturers. All export crates can be built with ISPM-15 heat treated lumber and marked with the IPPC stamp for customs compliance.

What's the typical lead time for a custom wood crate?

Standard industrial crates are typically ready in 2–5 business days depending on complexity and current shop volume. Rush jobs can often be accommodated — call us and ask. We build in-house, so we control the schedule directly.

Is there a minimum order size for custom crates?

No minimum. We build single custom crates as well as large runs. Whether you need one crate for a one-time equipment move or ongoing crating for a regular production line, we can accommodate it.

Do you deliver custom crates in Baltimore and the surrounding area?

Yes. We deliver to facilities, warehouses, and freight terminals throughout Baltimore, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New York. For large or time-sensitive shipments, we coordinate delivery timing with your team.
