Industrial Lumber — Baltimore, MD
Industrial Lumber, Dunnage
& Blocking Material
Cut-to-size softwood and hardwood for cargo stabilization, container loading, and industrial applications. Delivered locally near the Port of Baltimore.
What Is Dunnage?
Dunnage is any loose material used to protect, stabilize, or separate cargo during shipping. In the context of ocean container and flatbed truck shipping, wood dunnage refers to lumber pieces placed under, around, or between cargo to prevent movement, damage, and contact with the container floor or walls.
Dunnage serves a few key functions: it elevates cargo off the container floor to allow forklift access, it fills voids between cargo units to prevent shifting during transit, and it absorbs vibration and impact that would otherwise be transmitted directly to your goods.
Victor Wood Products supplies cut-to-size dunnage lumber to freight forwarders, container loaders, and port-area businesses throughout the Baltimore area. Because we cut lumber at our Dundalk facility, we can fill orders quickly and deliver to your location on short notice — including same-day when your vessel schedule is tight.

Who Uses Our Dunnage & Blocking
Freight Forwarders
Forwarders coordinating LCL and FCL shipments through the Port of Baltimore need dunnage and blocking to properly secure cargo in containers. We deliver on short notice timed to your vessel schedule.
Container Stuffers & Loaders
Operations that load containers at TradePoint Atlantic, Seagirt, or nearby warehouses need a reliable local source for blocking and bracing material. We can deliver same-day when the job requires it.
Manufacturers & Fabricators
Industrial manufacturers who ship heavy or oversized products on flatbed trucks use our blocking lumber to meet DOT cargo securement requirements and protect equipment in transit.
Port & Terminal Operators
Port businesses at Seagirt Marine Terminal, Dundalk Marine Terminal, and TradePoint Atlantic need a nearby wood supplier they can count on when material runs short.
Softwood vs. Hardwood: Which Do You Need?
The right material depends on the load you're securing and the application:
Softwood (Southern Yellow Pine, SPF)
Best for most dunnage applications. Lighter, easier to cut, and cost-effective. Adequate strength for standard cargo separation and blocking in containers and trailers. Most common choice for freight forwarder and port use.
Hardwood (Oak, Maple, Mixed)
Higher density and load-bearing capacity. Use hardwood blocking when you're securing very heavy cargo — steel coils, machinery, large fabrications — where softwood may compress or split under load. Also preferred for repeated-use blocking applications.
Not sure which to use? Call us — we'll ask a few questions about your cargo and recommend the right material.
Delivery Timed to Vessel Schedules
We understand that port operations run on vessel cutoffs, not business-hours convenience. If you need dunnage or blocking material delivered before a specific load-out window, call us with your timeline. Our Dundalk location means we can often accommodate same-day requests that would be impossible for suppliers shipping from elsewhere.
